
Samuel Bruce Phillips, Jr., CLU, ChFC was born and raised in Tuscaloosa County Alabama. He attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi and graduated with a BS degree in Physical Education, with minors in Public Recreation and Business Administration from Mississippi College in 1973.
After a five and one half (5 ½) year career with the US Public Health Service, Bruce entered the financial service industry in 1980 with MONY.
In May of 1992 Bruce became a regional sales manager with Time Insurance Company, a Fortis company. In 1994 Time Insurance was renamed Fortis and later Woodbury Financial. Bruce completed the Series 6, 63, 7, 24 and 65 examinations during this period which permitted him to both sell and supervise the sale of securities and provide investment management services through a registered investment advisor to his client’s. Bruce was a sales manager and recruiter for these companies until October 2002 as an Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction-branch manager.
In 2002 Bruce went into private practice with long-time friend Julian Harwell, CLU, ChFC at Financial Designs & Solutions in Conyers. Bruce became a branch manager and investment advisor representative (IAR) with Ameritas Investment Corp in 2004 and in September 2011 moved his practice to Covington and created Retirement & Wealth Strategies to focus on retirement accumulation, distribution planning and wealth preservation.
Bruce joined Cape Investment Advisory Inc., as an investment advisor representative, and Cape Securities, Inc. in July 2016 as a branch manager.
He holds both the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant professional designations from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Bruce is married to Faye Phillips and together they raised three children in Rockdale County in Conyers, GA.
Bruce is a past president of the Rockdale County Jaycees, a past member of the Rockdale Emergency Relief Board, a past ex-officio member of the board of Rockdale Cares and has served as treasurer of the Rockdale Rotary Club. He is a graduate of Leadership Rockdale. In 2004 Bruce became the Rockdale County United Way Campaign Chairman and served as campaign chairman again in 2005. He is a member of both the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, and is a past member of both the National Association of Insurance and Financial Professionals and the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He has also served Conyers Presbyterian Church as a deacon and an elder.
